Description
DBC,
recently completed mechanical construction for the new $40 Million
dollar Womens and Childrens Pavilion for Everett's
Providence Hospital, This 150,000 square foot addition provides housing
for childbirth facilities, a pediatric ward, breast care center,
clinic, and educational and administrative spaces, as well as
patient rooms, surgeries, and a neonatal intensive care unit.
The
DBC construction team worked with the medical centers design
team to help develop schedules, budgets, and coordinated plans
in order to keep existing areas of the hospital open, and accomodate
patients', during construction.
A
challenge faced by the designers and constructors of the Pavilion
was Providence Hospitals desire for a more resort-like appearance.
With this in mind, DBC and the Providence design team worked to
conceal the necessary mechanical systems with architectural elements,
so that the result is a building that appears more like a hotel
than a hospital.
Our
client is aware that consumers are facing more and more choices
when it comes to deciding where they want to go for such elective
services as childbirth and womens and childrens health
care. Having a state-of-the-art facility, as well as
a home-like environment to offer their patients, gives PEMC a
competitive advantage in this emerging market.
Project
Challenges
Some
of the major issues in constructing next to an existing hospital
included dust and noise control, air quality in nearby buildings,
and disruption of traffic patterns in and out of the hospital
campus.
